Kim Howat is a highly experienced technology and knowledge transfer broker. Following a career in the Royal Navy, during which he had appointments involving operational requirements, research and development (R&D) and procurement, he joined the MOD’s Defence Diversification Agency (DDA) as their Principal Technology Transfer Manager in the South West of England. During his 7 years with the DDA Kim brokered a wide range of technology transfers from defence R&D establishments to Small and Medium Size Enterprises in the South West of England. He was instrumental in developing access for SMEs to the Defence Procurement and Logistic Agencies (now DE&S) and in developing a scheme using R&D to meet the Offset requirements of Defence Prime Contractors. In 2008 he started KH Technology Broking and has enjoyed considerable success in arranging the transfer of technology and knowledge to SMEs and in obtaining grant funding for clients, from a variety of sources. Based in East Cornwall Kim has a wide range of contacts throughout business, academia and governmental organisations in the South West. Clients are principally manufacturing SMEs in Devon and Cornwall.
